F-Secure Lokki

Overview

F- Secure Lokki is an app that keeps track of the group of people for the members of the group. It tracks the person’s location with the app installed on his/her device.

My Role

My job was to do client research to find if there’s a client requirement for such an item, recognize client conduct, distinguish key errands, build up a model and run ease of use test.

Design process

The initial step of the structure procedure included client research to see how clients to act. I trust it’s imperative to get this data at an early stage all the while, before having a thought or prototyping.

User Research

The research involved affinity sorting, user interviews, persona creation and user story mapping. All this helped me to start the design.

User Interviews

We interviewed 5 people to validate the idea of such an app. Each interview took approximately 25 minutes and included topics to get to the core of users’ goals and pain points.

User Interview Core Findings

What we concluded is that all the people were scared about their kid getting lost, and 90% of them expressed a strong need to have such a tracker. Thus, validating the problem.

After interviewing the users, we wrote every observation on a sticky note. Then we did Affinity Sorting by grouping similar kinds of observations to find patterns and themes in user behaviour and situations. This helped us create User Personas and User Story Maps, which helped us listing out the features for MVP.

Results

Two groups stood out from this research – Stay-at-home people who want to do their day-to-day work without worrying about their relative’s whereabouts. Go-to-work people, who want to go to work, leaving their relatives behind at home, and not worry about their whereabouts if they leave their home.

Because both the user groups had the same goal to track their pet’s location, We came up with my Primary Persona Markus.

Markus says “As an IT professional, I need to get an alert if my daughter walking home from the school while I am at work, to be able to track her and know that she come safely.”

Minimum Viable Product Core Features

  • From these findings, we deduced that F- Secure Lokki MVP should
  • feature the following:

  • Definition of geofence areas (places)
  • Friends
  • Inform Friends

Wireframes

First, we made paper wireframes, iterated to-and-from through the different versions, and finally digitalized one final version.

Measuring Usability

We tested the working prototype of wireframes with 5 users to get a measurement of effectiveness, efficiency and satisfaction. We gave the users three tasks each.

Task 1

You are at the workplace, and you suddenly get a notification that your Daughter left the Home Zone. While you are at work, it’ll take some time for you to leave. You plan to inform your wife Susanna, who works in the neighbourhood about your kid’s whereabouts.

Task 2

You are at a grocery store near home, and you suddenly get a notification that your Daughter Essi has left the School Zone. You want to find Essi as soon as possible. Open the app to find her.

Task 3

You want to log out of the application (we did this to check the discoverability of navigation menu).

Usability Test Results

Effectiveness

Effectiveness is the completeness of the tasks and accuracy with which testing persons accomplish intentions.
Success Rate: 93% (15 out of 16 tasks were completed ).

Efficiency

Efficiency is the completeness and accuracy of goals achieved in relation to resources.
The average time spent to do each task: 37 sec (Task 1), 41 sec (Task 2), 6 sec (Task 3).

Satisfaction

Freedom from discomfort and positive experience after the use of the system.
We calculated satisfaction using the SUS (System Usability Score). SUS Score should be bigger than 60 to achieve Customer’s Satisfaction.
SUS for all of 5 users: 83.5, 85, 87.5, 85, 82.5
Our design succeeded in all three aspects of Usability, i.e., Effectiveness, Efficiency and Satisfaction.

Outcome

The users had a great impact on the design process. I learned that a lot of important aspects go unnoticed and missed if we design without users.
